The City of Monroe is the owner and operator of the Charlotte-Monroe Executive Airport, which is a designated reliever airport to Charlotte-Douglas International Airport. Charlotte-Monroe Executive Airport lies 7 miles from the corporate limits of the City of Charlotte. With its 7,000 feet of runway length, it is capable of accommodating a full range of general aviation aircraft.  With various approaches and an instrument landing system, the facility is accessible during inclement weather conditions and serves as home to nearly 100 based aircraft.
In the Summer of 2014, the new International Terminal is scheduled to open allowing Customs services.  It will be the only general aviation airport in the Carolinas with customs.
